Now that is an attention grabber! Studies show that men who have wives that stay at home make 20% to 50% MORE than those men who have wives that work. That is amazing. I know when we were throwing around numbers and deciding on whether or not to send my wife back to work after the baby was born, after child care, taxes, gas etc, she was making around $2/hour. Nice.
Subsequently we decided it would be best for her to stay home and enjoy raising the baby, and after seeing how much fun she was having, I retired. Not a bad way to :)
Here is a link for the book that references the study mentioned above.
Beside Every Successful Man: A Woman's Guide to Having It All. by Megan Bashum.
So the next question is.... What if you are a gay couple? Who gets to stay home?

Mom's usually stay home when the husband/ father makes enough that working isn't a necessity. If I were making 100K my wife wouldn't work, but if you're like a majority of Americans you're making 40-50K or less... (Hard to believe, but a good many people live outside of gated communities.) ... then two incomes are needed. Now I'm not saying that some people shouldn't change their priorities and lifestyle for the sake of their children, we all should, but my house can't keep Mom at home for long... and we require very little.
