Bailouts, deficits and more...

So we have the big 3 where the average employee pay is $81/ hr (that's right, and these are not doctors we are talking about here) who want to take money from the average joe (or joe the plumber) who makes $15/hr. I love the mentality, "if something is not working, let's just throw more money at it instead of correcting the problem." How about throwing a cool million my way? I mean, in a 750 billion dollar slush fund, who is really going to notice? Who doesn't love pork right?

Another brilliant revelation by your president-elect. Obami says that we have to spend money to make money, and therefore we should expect the deficit to go up in the next few years, not down. Seriously, knowing that how about throwing an extra 500K on top of that million you are sending me.

Last but not least, I have learned that ODOT (Ohio Dept. of Transportation) is useless in Cleveland, of it might just actually be Cleveland that is useless. Apparently the bridges are falling down, and therefore they have closed 1/2 the lanes on the bridge (and this has been going on for almost 12 months) while they decide what should be done. Didn't Minnesota have this problem? I believe they had a new bridge built and ready to rock in less time. Nice.

I live within 10 miles of a big Nissan plant and 25 miles from a huge Saturn plant, so we are very familar with the auto industry in these parts. However, I know nothing about the American 'Big 3'. That being said, I'm personally associated with multiple people working in our auto plants or around them. Detroit may be different, but several of my friends have been employed as line employees at these respective plants for 10+ years. As some of the most senior line men and women, these people make around 40K a year. The work is also extremely physically demanding, but hey, what do you expect with only 2 years of JuCo under your belt, right? Anyway, 81/hr on average in Detroit must include management, and if those numbers are true, you have hit on the problem. The big 3 are paying the wrong people way too much and spending the petty cash on private jets.lol
As for the deficit, it should be a priority for our country to get it under control and pay down the national debt. I heard a nobel prize winning economist talk the other day and he said that during this economic slowdown we should not worry about deficits, but ultimately spend money on the country's infrastructure to create jobs and help stabilize things. I couldn't say I was completely on board with running up high deficits and I do have a degree from a sate college.
How did we get to the point with our roads and bridges that as Americans we actually give pause when crossing a body of water. Where did that money allocated for the bridge to nowhere go. Can't we funnel a couple million to Ohio and keep you Brown's fans safe and dry? If there is anything worse than crashing in a river, it is doing it in December in Northeast Ohio.
